Bulldogs drop series finale to Longwood, 11-5

Despite the loss, the Bulldog hitters continued to see the ball well totaling 16 hits on the afternoon. Four of those hits came from Kohl Abrams on a 4-for-5 afternoon. Dylan Bacot (3-for-5) and Corbin Lanowitz (3-for-5) both had three-hit games, while Tony Castonguay (2-for-4) notched his second straight multi-hit game.
Even with the 11-run outburst, the Lancers did not have any huge inning on Sunday. Longwood scored single runs in the first, second, and third innings to open a 3-0 lead. The Lancers would log their first multi-run in the fifth to go up 5-0 on the Bulldogs.
Castonguay got Asheville on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.
The home run, which was Castonguay's first in a Bulldog uniform, did not slow Longwood's momentum though. The Bulldogs had plenty of runners on to try and make a comeback attempt on Sunday. Asheville had at least one runner reach base in seven of the nine innings. The Bulldogs would break through in the ninth inning with four runs on seven hits to take a sizable bite out of the Longwood lead. However, the cushion the Lancers built throughout the afternoon stood up as they held on for the 11-5 win.
Asheville will be back in action on Tuesday with its toughest test of the season to date as it travels to nationally-ranked Tennessee. First pitch between the Bulldogs and Volunteers is set for 4:30 p.m. on SEC Network Plus.
