Baseball Falls in Midweek Contest at Charlotte

Charlotte jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, before Asheville tied the game in the second with a sacrifice fly by Brock Mercado that scored Blaize Johnson. Asheville would take a 5-1 lead with four runs in the third, with the inning starting with a Jake Pereira leadoff single to center. After the first two outs were recorded, Rylen Stockton would poke a single through the left side before Patrick Gillen would double down the third base line to score Pereira. Johnson would deliver the big blow in the inning with a three-run shot to right center to score Stockton and Gillen. Charlotte would respond with 11 runs in the third, one in the fourth and 16 in the fifth to bring the game to its final score.

Johnson paced the offense with two hits in the game, while Stockton, Gillen, Jake Minarik and Pereira each had one hit in the game. Johnson scored twice in the game, while Eric Krumpe, Gillen and Pereira each scored once in the game. Johnson matched his career-high with three runs batted in for the contest, while Gillen and Mercado each also drove in one run. Zachary Gaydos got the start for Asheville handling the first 2.1 innings allowing five runs, four earned on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Chase Buscher (0-1), Branden Barna, Cal Barna and Sam Thompson each also pitched for Asheville.
