Baseball Falls to ETSU in Midweek Matchup

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball fell to East Tennessee State in a midweek matchup at Greenwood Field on Tuesday (May 6) by a score of 12-5.
 
ETSU built a 4-0 lead through two innings, before Asheville got back within 4-3 with two runs in the third and one run in the fourth. Rylen Stockton's fifth home run of the season was a two-run shot to left that brought home Logan Lowe in the third, while Corbin Lanowitz would reach on a fielder's choice to bring home Brock Mercado in the fourth. ETSU would stretch its lead with two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and four in the seventh before Asheville would bring the game to its final score with two runs in the eighth. A Jake Minarik RBI single scored Patrick Gillen, before Blaize Johnson scored on a sacrifice fly from Brock Mercado.
 
Gillen, Johnson, Minarik and Owen Michelson each had two hits in the game, while Lanowitz, Lowe, Stockton and Mercado each had one hit. Lowe, Stockton, Gillen, Johnson and Mercado each scored a run for Asheville in the game, while Stockton drove in two runs and Lanowitz, Minarik and Mercado each had one RBI in the game. Shea Walker (0-4) took the loss on the mound, allowing one run on two hits in one inning with one walk. He was relieved by Ryland Howell, who was followed by one scoreless inning from Matthew Hall. Hall did not allow a hit in his relief inning, walking one and striking out two. Daylinh Nguyen-Brown picked up one inning in relief, scattering two hits before giving way to appearances from Branden Barna and Cal Barna. Zachary Gaydos and Sam Thompson each collected an inning of relief, before Chase Buscher and Nic Melton added scoreless appearances to close out the game for Asheville. Buscher allowed one hit with one strikeout, while Melton issued one walk to go along with two strikeouts.
 
Asheville returns to the diamond on Friday (May 9) to start a three-game series at Charleston Southern in Big South Conference play. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. on Friday with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
