Baseball Falls in Senior Day Affair with USC Upstate

USC Upstate scored two runs in the top half of the first, before Asheville would cut the lead in half with one in the bottom of the inning when Patrick Gillen reached on a fielder's choice to score Logan Lowe. USC Upstate would score one run in the top of the third, before the Bulldogs would take the lead with three runs in the home half. Corbin Lanwotiz lashed a one-out single to left, before Lowe dropped a single into left center to put two on with one out. Rylen Stockton delivered the big blow in the inning with his sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot to left center to put Asheville ahead 4-3. Upstate countered with three runs in the top of the fourth, before Asheville put one up on the board with Jake Pereira's third triple of the year scoring Jake Minarik. Asheville would take a lead in the fifth with two runs in the inning, starting with a one-out double from Rylen Stockton. Patrick Gillen would send his sixth home run of the year to right to put Asheville ahead 7-6 in the inning. USC Upstate would respond with four runs in the top of the sixth, before Asheville put two runs up in the home half of the inning. Pereira would reach on a one-out error in the Upstate infield, before Lanowitz blasted his fourth home run of the season to bring both runs home. The teams would trade scoreless frames in the seventh, before USC Upstate would pull away with two runs in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Asheville outhit Upstate 16-11 in the game paced by a 4-5 day from Stockton with three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Lowe went 3-5 with two runs scored. Lanowitz and Minarik each posted two hits in the game, while Gillen, Blaize Johnson, Brock Mercado, Charlie Stogner and Pereira each had one hit in the game. Stockton and Gillen each drove in three runs in the game, while Lanowitz added two RBI and Pereira also had one. Lanowitz, Lowe and Stockton each scored twice in the game, while Gillen, Minarik and Pereira each scored one run in the game. Daylinh Nguyen-Brown got the start for Asheville, allowing six runs on six hits through five innings with four walks and three strikeouts. Zachary Gaydos (0-3) took the loss allowing three runs with three walks, before he was relieved by one inning from Branden Barna. Barna allowed one run on two hits, before giving way to two innings of relief from Chase Buscher. Buscher allowed two runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts, before Nic Melton and Cal Barna combined to finish the game on the mound for Asheville. Barna picked up two strikeouts in 0.2 hitless innings for the Bulldogs.
