Conor McCarthy Joins UNC Asheville Baseball Coaching Staff

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Conor McCarthy has joined the UNC Asheville Baseball coaching staff as the team's new pitching coach, announced today (Monday, Aug. 10) by head coach Alex Raburn.

McCarthy comes to Asheville after two seasons at Appalachian State as the Director of Player Development and Strength and Conditioning Coach with the baseball program. McCarthy helped develop the team's strength and conditioning regiment while also spearheading the team's data and analytics usage.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Conor McCarthy to Asheville as our new pitching coach," said Coach Raburn. "Conor came highly recommended, and his experience at both Wake Forest and App State speaks for itself. He is incredibly organized, has a great understanding of the technology and analytical side of pitching, and, most importantly, he is invested in the individual development of every pitcher he works with. Conor has a tremendous work ethic and genuinely cares about helping each guy become the best version of himself. I'm really excited about the energy, knowledge and passion he is going to bring to our pitching staff and our program."

Prior to App State, McCarthy spent the 2024 season as the Pitching Lab Analyst at Wake Forest working with data and analytics to optimize all facets of pitching performance within the Demon Deacons baseball program. Prior to Wake Forest, McCarthy was the Founder and Director of Player Development with CTX Baseball in Liberty Hill, Texas from 2017-23. In this role, he worked with pitchers of all ages to optimize all facets of pitching from training to data and analytics usage. McCarthy was a four-year member of the Bryant University Bulldogs baseball team from 2010-14, in which the team won three Northeast Conference Championships to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

"From my first conversations with Coach Raburn, I was excited about his vision for the program and the opportunity to help build something special in Asheville. Our goal with the pitching staff will be simple: Develop. Prepare. Compete. Own It. We're going to develop our pitchers individually, prepare them with a clear plan and purpose and challenge them to compete at a high level. Ultimately, we want our guys to understand their game, take ownership of their careers and know that our staff is fully invested in helping them reach their potential. I'm excited to get to work and represent UNC Asheville."
