BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Blake Burton hit a three run home run to highlight a four run eighth inning that gave Birmingham-Southern an 11-7 victory over UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon in game two of a three game Big South series.

Burton's third home run of the season came after an error allowed Ronny Woods to score from third to break at 7-7 tie. Woods worked a lead-off walk and moved to second on a single by Mark Gofroth who went 3-for-5 in the game. Scott Billak sacrificed both runners up a base. Billy Froehlich hit a ground ball to second base that went through the legs of Kyle Smith to allow Woods to put the Panthers ahead.

Asheville (10-14, 0-2 Big South) had a chance in the top of the eighth to get the lead when Matt Henson worked a lead-off walk, stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Tony Campana. The Bulldogs could not get the go ahead run home from third with one out. Goforth made a sliding catch on a Kevin Mattison ball to centerfield to end the inning.

Asheville got on the board in the top of the first as Campana walked and later scored on an infield single by Elliott Arrington who went 4-for-5 on the day with three RBI.

BSC (12-8, 2-0 Big South) scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Froelich delivered the key hit, a bases loaded double that scored three Panthers and made the score 4-1.

The Bulldogs answered with five runs in the fourth inning. Edmund Locklear led off with a single. One out later, Johnny Martinez singled in front of a walk to John Whited that loaded the bases. Locklear scored on a wild pitch before Henson laced a RBI single to score Martinez. Tony Campana hit into a fielder's choice that scored Whited to tie the game at 4-4. A pair of BSC errors plated Henson and Arrington doubled home Campana to put Asheville up 6-4.

The Panthers tied the game in the fifth. Burton singled in front of a double by Brandon Hynick to place runners at second and third with no one out. Burton scored on a RBI ground out and Hynick came around on a single by Matt Barber.

Steve Burnich double with one out in the sixth. Arrington drove him home with a single to put the Bulldogs back up by one run.

In the bottom of the inning, Goforth tripled and scored on a double by Billack to tie the game once again.

Will Stroup (1-0) picked up his first win of the season throwing the final two innings giving up a walk and a hit. Graham Baughn (2-1) took the loss giving up four runs in one inning of work.

The two teams will conclude the series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT/ 2 p.m. ET. Tim Johnson is scheduled to start for UNC Asheville.
