Ryan Douglas named Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday that UNC Asheville's Ryan Douglas has been named the Conference's Starting Pitcher of the Week for games played between May 16-21.
Douglas notched one of his best starts of the season on Friday afternoon vs. Winthrop. The junior threw five shutout innings where he allowed three hits and a walk to go with four strikeouts. Thanks to this effort, Douglas helped the Bulldogs even the series at a game a piece by defeating the Eagles, 6-0. Â Douglas, meanwhile, was credited with his second win of the season with his outing.
The weekly award by Douglas marks the seventh such honor that Asheville has earned in 2022. Douglas joins fellow Bulldogs Robbie Burnett (Freshman of the Week – April 11, May 9), Dylan Bacot (Player of the Week – April 25), Michael Groves (Player of the Week – March 28), Justin Honeycutt (Relief Pitcher of the Week – March 21), and Blake Little (Relief Pitcher of the Week) as players that have landed at least weekly award this season.
Furthermore, Douglas is the fifth Bulldog pitcher to earn the League's Starting Pitcher of the Week honor joining teammate Jacob Edwards (twice) and former Bulldogs Blake Brown, Greg Gasparro, and Jordan Carr.
Douglas and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday as they open play in the 2022 Ingles Big South Baseball Championship in High Point, N.C. against Gardner-Webb at 3 p.m.Â
