BIG SOUTH RELEASE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday that UNC Asheville's Robbie Burnett has been named the League's Freshman of the Week for games played between April 4-10. It marks the first weekly honor in Burnett's career and the fourth by a Bulldog this season.
Burnett hit .385 with five hits in 13 at-bats in last weekend's series vs. North Carolina A&T. He also drew three walks (finished with a .500 on-base percentage), scored six runs, drove in four runs, hit a double, and a home run. Burnett came across the plate to score at least one run in all three games vs. A&T, including a season-high three runs scored in Sunday's 13-6 win.
On Friday, Burnett matched a season-high with three hits with a run scored against A&T. He then followed that by reaching base three times on Saturday, scoring twice and driving in a run. Finally on Sunday, Burnett came through with a key three-run home run to give Asheville some extra breathing room on its way to a 13-6 win.
Burnett joins fellow Bulldogs Blake Little (Relief Pitcher of the Week – March 14), Justin Honeycutt (Relief Pitcher of the Week – March 21), and Michael Groves (Player of the Week – March 28) as Asheville players that have earned a weekly award from the conference.
Burnett and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday when they welcome rival Western Carolina to Greenwood Field for a non-conference matchup. The first pitch between the Bulldogs and Catamounts is set for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.Â
