DALLAS - Dallas Texas exploded for 16 runs and 18 hits as the Patriots defeated UNC Asheville, 16-5 in college baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Patriot Field.

The Bulldogs (4-10) were led at the plate by Kevin Mattison who continued his torrid early-season hitting. The sophomore outfielder went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs.

Dallas Baptist (9-6) led 3-0 after two innings before UNC Asheville rallied to cut the lead to 3-2 with two runs in the third inning as Mattison delivered a two-run double.

The Patriots hit six home runs in the game and scored a run in the third and then added five runs in the sixth to build the lead to 9-5.

Asheville fought back with three runs in the seventh to cut the lead to 9-5. Dallas Baptist put the game away with seven runs in the final two innings.

Steven Burnich added two hits for the Bulldogs, while catcher Edmund Locklear scored two runs and had a hit. Elliott Arrington had a triple for Asheville.

The Bulldogs continue their Texas swing with a game at Texas-Arlington Wednesday night starting at 7:30 p.m. CST.
