Bulldogs shutout at home by Queens, 3-0

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team lost its match at Greenwood Field Tuesday to Queens University of Charlotte, 3-0. The shutout brought the Bulldogs record to 1-5 in non-conference play to begin the season.
The match began with Queens putting the pressure on the Bulldogs defense. The Royals possessed the ball firmly in the Asheville half of the pitch for the first 18 minutes of the game before Mario Goic scored off a deflection.
After the goal, the Bulldogs went on the offensive, with Conor Behan and Brendan Herb getting scoring opportunities off of a few free kicks and drives to the goal. In the 43rd minute, the Bulldogs committed a foul outside of their box leading to a free kick goal by Felipe Mendonca putting Queens up 2-0 before the half.
In the second half, Queens continued the attack and scored again in the 55th minute as Mario Goic scored his second goal by chipping the ball right over the goalkeeper to put the Royals up 3-0.
Down three goals, the Bulldog's forwards Sam Presser and Jake Kemhadjian began pressing deep into Queens territory and managed to get a few steals and fast breaks but were unable to find the back of the net. From there, the Bulldogs were unable to rally and the game ended in a 3-0 score.Â
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday as they travel to Greenville S.C. to take on the Furman Paladins in a non-conference bout scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
