Five Bulldogs Named to Big South Conference Midseason Watch List

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Five UNC Asheville Men's Soccer players have been named to the Big South Conference Midseason Watch List, announced by the league today (Wednesday, Sept. 17).
 
Freshman forward Arnor Hardarson, senior forward Rodrigo Mendes, sophomore midfielder Charlie Wood, senior defender Viðar Ragnarsson and sophomore goalkeeper Lucca Barros were each named to the list for the Bulldogs.
 
Hardarson has appeared in all six matches making four starts so far this season. He has totaled three goals and two assists for eight points, while also being named Big South Conference Co-Freshman of the Week on Sept. 8. Hardarson is currently tied for fifth in goals and tied for fifth in assists.
 
He is a native of Koavogur, Iceland.
 
Having started in all six matches this season, Mendes is tied for the league lead in goals with four and leads the league in points with 10. He's also tied for fifth in the league in assists with two. On Aug. 26 against Georgia State, he became the first Bulldog since 2022 to score a hat trick with three goals in the win over Georgia State. He was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2 and also earned Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week Honorable Mention honors on Sept. 3.
 
He is a native of Vila do Conde, Portugal. He is a computer science major.
 
Wood has played and started in all six matches this season, totaling one goal and two assists for four points while also being tied for fifth in the league in assists. He was also named to the Top Returners Watch List prior to the season.
 
He is a native of Addingham, United Kingdom. He is a business major.
 
 Ragnarsson has played and started in all six matches on the back line for the Bulldogs. Prior to the season, he was named to the Big South Conference Top Returners Watch List.
 
He is a native of Reykjanesbaer, Iceland and a double major in business and sociology.
 
Barros has played and started in all six matches between the pipes being tied for second in the league in Goals Against Average (.833), eighth in saves (15) and third in save percentage (.750). He earned his first Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor earlier this week.
He is a native of Mint Hill, N.C.
 
The Bulldogs (4-1-1) return to action on Saturday (Sept. 20) at USC Upstate for the latest installment of the Ingles I-26 Rivalry and the Big South Conference opener. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. from Spartanburg, S.C. with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
