ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday when it visits Furman for a non-conference contest. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Paladins is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – Asheville fell to Queens University of Charlotte on Tuesday night by a score of 3-0. With Tuesday's result, the Bulldogs saw their record dip to 1-5 on the 2022 campaign.
Going back to the Palmetto State – The Bulldogs will make their second trip to South Carolina in as many weeks on Saturday. Asheville played No. 1 Clemson on September 6 in the first contest. The Bulldogs, who will play two more matches in South Carolina (College of Charleston – Sept. 27, Presbyterian – Oct. 5) this season, are looking for their first win in the state of South Carolina since October 5, 2019 when they downed Winthrop, 3-0.
Tied for the Big South Lead – Freshman Sam Pitts-Eckersall remains tied for the Big South lead in goals scored so far this season with three. Pitts-Eckersall's three goals all came in Asheville's 5-3 triumph over Georgia Southern in late August. Thanks to that effort, Pitts-Eckersall was named the Big South's Freshman of the Week.
About the Paladins – Furman has a record of 3-1-1 so far this season. However, their lone setback of the season came in their last match vs. Elon, 2-0. A strength for the Paladins so far has been their defense. Furman leads all Southern Conference teams with a .818 save percentage. Nationally, the Paladins' save percentage ranks 29th.
Series Rewind vs. Furman – The Paladins have never lost to Asheville as they sport an 0-11-3 record against the Bulldogs during the Division I era. One of those wins for Furman came last season where it knocked off Bulldogs, 2-1, at Greenwood Field. The last tie in the series came back on September 29, 2018 where the Bulldogs and Paladins played to a 1-1 draw.
