Sam Pitts-Eckersall named the Big South Freshman of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday that UNC Asheville men's soccer player Sam Pitts-Eckersall had been named the League's Freshman of the Week honors for matches played between August 25-28.
"We are extremely happy to hear that Sam has been recognized after his fantastic performance over the weekend," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Mick Giordano.
Pitts-Eckersall scored three goals to help power the UNC Asheville men's soccer team to a 5-3 victory over Georgia Southern on Sunday afternoon. Pitts-Eckersall's performance on Sunday was not only stellar for a freshman but one of the more impressive showings by a Bulldog in recent memory. The last time a Bulldog scored three goals or more in a match was back in 2002.
Pitts-Eckersall and the rest of the Bulldogs will return to the pitch on Friday when they take on regional rival East Tennessee State at Greenwood Field. Kickoff for that match is set for 6 p.m. from Greenwood Field.
