ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will aim to pick up its third straight victory Saturday when it visits Furman for a non-conference matchup. Tip-off between the Bulldogs and Paladins is set for 2 p.m., and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – Asheville downed Mars Hill, 71-38, on Monday in its home opener. With Monday's win over Mars Hill, Asheville's record stands at 2-1 on the season.
Co-Big South Player of the Week – Fifth-year senior Nadiria Evans was named the Co-Big South Player of the Week on Monday for the games played on November 9-15. It marks the third time in Evans' career that she has earned Player of the Week honors from the conference.
Balance was key for the Bulldogs – Balance was key for Asheville in Monday's win. Eleven different Bulldogs scored in the contest, and nine of those players scored five points or more.
Sellers shines in home debut – The only Bulldog to finish Monday's game vs. Mars Hill in double figures was freshman Alonna Sellers, who finished a rebound shy of her first collegiate double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Recalling the Rebounding Effort – Asheville was also dominant down low, out-rebounding the Lions 57-27. Freshman Mallory Bruce led this charge, finishing with a career-high 11 rebounds, while Sellers' nine boards along with seven rebounds apiece from Jordaynia Ivie and Jamia Blake helped fuel one of Asheville's best performances on the glass in recent memory.
Ivie among league leaders – Ivie has been one of the Big South's top players in the first two weeks in taking the ball away. Ivie is tied for the team lead with nine steals. On a national scale, Ivie's nine steals rank 57th in the country.

In the March 15, 2018 game versus the Paladins, which was the opening round of the WBI Tournament, former Bulldog Jessica Wall broke the school record by hitting nine 3-pointers. Despite Wall's effort, Furman still won that game, 65-64.
About Furman – Like Asheville, Furman enters Saturday's game sporting a 2-1 record. The Paladins have notched wins over Presbyterian (68-39) and Converse (101-58), with the lone setback being on the road at Georgia (78-41). A player to watch for Furman on Saturday is Tierra Hodges, who is averaging nearly a double-double with 12.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

Overall, Furman holds the slight edge, winning 18 of the 32 all-time matchups, including the last four meetings. Asheville's last win over the Paladins came on December 18, 2015, 84-71, at Kimmel Arena.
