Asia Dozier Announced as New Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

05.01.2026 | Women's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Asia Dozier has joined the UNC Asheville Women's Basketball staff as the program's new assistant coach, announced today (Friday, May 1) by head coach Tynesha Lewis.

Dozier joins the Bulldog staff after spending the last two years at Unrivaled working with the Phantom Basketball Club. She worked with numerous WNBA players in this role and also assisted with scouting and game planning.

"Asia is a tremendous hire for our program," said Coach Lewis. "Having played for Dawn Staley, she understands the standard of excellence required to win. Her ability to develop post players and build meaningful recruiting connections will only elevate our program. I am extremely excited to welcome her to the UNC Asheville community."

Prior to Unrivaled, she was an assistant coach at North Carolina A&T during the 2023-24 season when the Aggies won 22 games and earned a postseason appearance. She worked with three All-Conference players, while assisting in all facets of the program in a de facto Director of Basketball Operations role. Before her time at A&T, she was an assistant coach at Buffalo during the 2022-23 season where the Bulls qualified for the Mid-American Conference tournament after being projected 12th. She was the primary Player Development Coach for Buffalo, while the team's grade point average improved from 2.8 to 3.25 during her time on staff.

Dozier re-joined the collegiate ranks after being the head coach at Cardinal Newman School (2020-22) winning a pair of state titles, being named the 2022 Region Coach of the Year and boasting one McDonald's All-American and one McDonald's All-American nominee. Prior to Cardinal Newman she was the head coach at Legion Collegiate Academy (2019-20), where the team posted a winning record in its inaugural season with Dozier as a first-year head coach. She also coached the SC76ers travel program from 2018-22.

After a four-year playing career at South Carolina under Dawn Staley in which the Gamecocks advanced to the Final Four for the first time in program history, won three SEC championships and made four consecutive Sweet 16 appearances, Dozier was a graduate assistant at the University of Florida during the 2016-17 season.

"It's an honor to join this incredible coaching staff and University," said Dozier. "I have the utmost respect for Coach Lewis, what she represents and who she is as a person. She is the definition of a player's coach; and I am excited to be under such a selfless leader who shares my passion and love for the game. I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity and ready to do everything in my power to help bring championship trophies back to Asheville!"

Dozier holds a bachelor's degree in business and finance from South Carolina.
