BULLDOG BITES

Highlights

High Point jumped out to an early lead, as it put up six runs in the first inning. Hunter Lee, Tanner Wells and Conner Dunbar all had RBI hits in the first frame, as the Panthers took the 6-0 lead.

The Panthers tacked on lone runs in both the second and third innings before being held scoreless in the fourth frame.

After allowing two more runs in the top of the fifth, UNC Asheville cut into the 10-0 deficit. In the home half of the frame, Tyler Serricchio earned a one-out walk, and two batters later, Kole Harris connected with a single up the middle. Zayatz made it hurt, as he connected with a three-run homer to right field.

HPU earned four total runs in the final four innings. During that four-inning span, the Panthers held the Bulldog offense to one hit, which was a bloop single from Jake Madole in the eighth.

In the 14-3 defeat, High Point out-hit UNC Asheville 17-5. For Asheville, five different Bulldogs collected a hit, but none bigger than the three-run homer off Zayatz's bat. The other four Bulldog hits were singles.

Tripp Barfield and Jake Catalano were the only Bulldog relievers to hold the Panthers off the scoreboard. Barfield worked a 1-2-3 fourth inning, while Catalano only allowed one walk in the ninth.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 12-35 overall and 7-16 in Big South Conference play, and HPU moves to 27-20 overall and 15-8 in league play.
