Mattison and Bogaert Lead Dogs to Victory at Radford

RADFORD, Va.? Kevin Mattison went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI and Michael Bogaert threw eight strong innings to help UNC Asheville even its series with Radford with an 11-6 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Mattison, Danny Baatz, and Reed Kreiser each had home runs to led Asheville (19-28, 3-11 Big South) from the plate while Bogaert (6-4) led the Dogs on the mound. Bogaert allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits.
Mattison's ninth home run of the season put the Bulldogs up 3-0 in the third inning. Beau Zinman had a lead-off single. Catlin Carter's bunt single put runners at first and second with one out before Mattison's blast to right field.
Radford (17-25, 4-10 Big South) picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the third. Tyren Rivers had an infield single to lead off the inning, stole second, and went to third on a ground out. With two outs, Nathan Toth reached on an error to score the run and keep the inning alive.
Asheville answered with three more runs in the fourth. With two outs, Danny Baatz belted his fourth home run of the year over the left field wall for a 4-1 Bulldog lead. Zinman followed with his second hit of the game. Mike Vaughn reached on an error and Carter singled to third base to load the bases. Mattison came through with a single to score Zinman and Vaughn giving him five RBI on the day.
Radford got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth. Rivers led off with a double and walk to M. Duarte put runners at first and second. Toth's RBI single plated Rivers and Duarte scored on a infield hit by Reggie Keen to bring the score to 6-3.
The Dogs put the game away with five runs in the top of the ninth. Carter led off with a single, Mattison sacrificed him to second base. Kevin Weidenbacher and Elliott Arrington both followed with hits to score Carter. Justin Schumer singled home Weidenbacher to make the score 8-3 and Reed Kreiser hit his 12th home run of the season to right center to put Asheville's final runs on the board.
The Highlanders plated three runs the bottom off the ninth but Taylor Wohlwend recorded the last three outs to even the series at a game apiece. The rubber game will be on Sunday at 1 p.m.
