Errors Costly in Loss to Evansville

CHARLESTON, S.C.? Evansville scored single runs in six consecutive innings taking advantage of four UNC Asheville errors in route to a 6-3 victory at the Citadel Shootout Saturday night.
Michael Bogaert (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season despite not allowing an earned run. John Foley (1-0) earned the first victory of the year for the Aces (1-9) going 7.1 allowing three runs on four hits. He walked two batters and struck out seven Bulldogs.
Asheville (5-7) got on the board in the top of the first as Kevin Wiedenbacher led off the game with a double. Two batters later, he would score on a RBI double by Reed Kreiser.
Evansville tied the game in third and went ahead 2-1 in the fourth. Both runs were unearned off of Bogaert who went 4.2 innings allowing three unearned runs on five hits. He walk four and struck out six aces.
The Dogs tied the game in the top of the fifth. Brett Robinson led off with a double in front of a RBI double by Catlin Carter.
Evansville picked up another unearned run in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead at 3-2. In the sixth, the Aces pushed across their first earned run of the game. Alex Acheson singled, stole second, and went to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a RBI single by Andy Pascoe. After another unearned run in the seventh, UE got a solo home run in the eighth by pinch hitter Nate Smith to close out the scoring.
Asheville got an unearned run back in the top of the eighth. Kevin Mattison reached on a two base error by the Aces right fielder. A walk to Kreiser and fielder's choice had Dogs at first and third with two out. Elliott Arrington singled home Mattison and Danny Baatz walked to load the bases. Evansville closer J.R. Carbonell came in to get a fielder's choice ground out to get out of the jam for his first save of the year.
Asheville will face The Citadel on Sunday in a 2 p.m. while Evansville plays Wright State in a 10 a.m. game.
