SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second straight tournament, the UNC Asheville women's golf team finished fourth at a fall tournament as it placed fourth at the Terrier Intercollegiate. Individually, the Bulldog highest on the leader board was Madyson Gold, who finished second with a score of +2 (76-71-71-218) for the tournament.
Asheville was only outlasted by USC Upstate, South Dakota, and Samford in Spartanburg. The Bulldogs did finish ahead of fellow Big South schools Gardner-Webb, Longwood, Winthrop, and Presbyterian.
Gold, who birdied a tournament-high 11 holes this week, continues her stellar start to the season as she has now carded three rounds of under par this fall. This already matches a program record for under-par rounds for a Bulldog for a single season.
In addition to Gold, Venecia Zaia (81-69-81-231) and Kayla Benge (80-76-75-231) finished tied for 20th with scores of +15 over 54 holes. Zaia shot the lowest round of the week for Asheville checking in at a -3 (69). Furthermore, Zaia had a hole-in-one on the third hole during her second round three-under-par performance.
Rounding out the scores for Asheville were the duo of Hailey Pendleton with a +25 (76-81-84-241) and Phoebe Carles checking in at +28 (85-81-78-244).
Asheville will return to action on November 6-7 when it hosts the French Broad Collegiate Invitational at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove. For more information on this year's tournament, click HERE.
