Women's Golf Defeats Gardner-Webb on Day One of the French Broad Collegiate Invitational

 ARDEN, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's golf team defeated Gardner-Webb in match play on the first playoff hole to open play at the French Broad Collegiate Invitational at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove on Sunday (Nov. 6).

Sierra Cardi fell to Gardner-Webb's Gillian O'Brien (1-up), while Phoebe Carles lost a tough 1-up contest to Kayla Dowell. Kayla Benge captured a 3&2 victory over Katelyn Griggs, while Venecia Zaia defeated Neza Sfitar 3&2. Madyson Gold and Linnea Hofgren played to a tie in their match through 18 holes, before Gold would win the match with a par on the first playoff hole to send the Bulldogs to the championship match.

The Bulldogs return to the course tomorrow (Monday, Nov. 7), to face USC Upstate in the match play championship. Tee-off for the match is set for 10:50 a.m.
