Campbell Powers Past Asheville in Series Opener

Campbell, which entered Friday's game ranked sixth nationally in runs per game, flexed its muscles early and often against Asheville. To go along with their six home runs, the Camels added three other extra-base hits, drew nine walks and were helped by four Bulldog errors on their way to the 19-run outburst.
The Bulldogs, meanwhile, tallied eight hits in the contest. Dominic Freeberger and Sebastian Dunn each had two-hit performances, while Kohl Abrams also reached base twice on a pair of walks. The remaining hits for Asheville were three singles by Will Barbour, Michael Groves, and Cam Johnson.
The big hit for Asheville Friday, however, came off the bat of Brandon Lankford. Lankford launched his conference-leading 12th home run of the season in the sixth inning to account for the Bulldogs' lone run. Friday's long ball marked the 47th of Lankford's career, which moves him into a tie for third place on the Big South's all-time home run list. Only Winthrop's Jason Colson (53 home runs), David Anderson (50 home runs) of Coastal Carolina, and Chandler Redmond (50 home runs) of Gardner-Webb sit ahead of Lankford on the list.
Asheville will aim to bounce back on Saturday as it will match up with the Camels again for a doubleheader. The first pitch of the twin bill is scheduled for 2 p.m. and both games can be seen on ESPN+.
