ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team will travel to Campbell for a three-game series this weekend. Asheville and Campbell will play once Friday at 5 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. All three games can be seen on ESPN+.
Probable Pitching Matchups
Game 1 – Cade Kuehler (CAM) vs. Justin Honeycutt (AVL)
Game 2 – Ryan Chasse (CAM) vs. Jacob Edwards (AVL)
Game 3 – Thomas Harrington (CAM) vs. Kole Harris (AVL)
Last Time Out – Asheville picked up a comeback 6-2 victory over Presbyterian on Tuesday at Greenwood Field. The victory is the Bulldogs' third straight and boosted their record in Big South games to 12-14 on the 2021 campaign.
Pride in Pitching – A prominent reason for Asheville winning its last three games has been the efforts of its pitching staff. During the previous three games, the Bulldogs have a team ERA of 0.36 after surrendering just one earned run in 25 innings. Additionally, it has been a team effort as eight different pitchers have seen time on the mound during this stretch.
Few Strikeouts for Freeberger – In addition to his ability to play multiple spots on the diamond, Dominic Freeberger has aided the Bulldogs by putting the ball in play. Freeberger is currently the second-hardest player in the Big South to strike out as he is retired on strikes every 12.6 at-bats. On a national level, Freeberger ranks 15th in that category.
Among the Nation's Leaders – Freeberger is not the only Bulldog among the national leaders in statistical categories. Brandon Lankford ranks 23rd among Division I players with 11 home runs in 2021. Lankford's stellar play has not only been in the power department as he paces Asheville in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored, RBI, total bases, and walks.
Update to the Schedule – Following this weekend's series at Campbell, the Bulldogs will play a make-up game at Presbyterian on Tuesday. This contest is a result of a postponed series from earlier this season. The first pitch for Tuesday's contest is set for 3:30 p.m.
About Campbell – The Camels, which are 20-13 overall and 15-9 in conference play, are coming off a weekend where they dropped a series at Presbyterian. Campbell's lone victory vs. the Blue Hose was a convincing one by the score of 21-5. As that 21-run performance shows, the Camels have a potent offense. Campbell ranks sixth in the nation in scoring averaging 8.5 runs per game. Only Marist, San Diego State, Jackson State, Western Carolina, and Arizona average more runs than the Camels.
Series Rewind vs. Campbell – This weekend's series will be the second three-game set between Asheville and Campbell this season. In late March, the Camels visited Greenwood Field, where the Bulldogs won two of the three games by scores of 8-6 and 4-2.
