Bulldogs Set for Fight with Panthers Thursday Night

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's basketball will take on the Panthers of High Point at 6 p.m., Thursday, January 9, inside Kimmel Arena.
UNC Asheville sits atop the Big South standings with a 3-1 record in conference and a 9-4 record overall. The Bulldogs have won back to back games after opening conference play 1-1.
UNC Asheville secured a 20 point victory on the road at USC Upstate Monday night by taking down the Spartans, 68-48, inside the G.B. Hodge Center. The Bulldogs forced the Spartans to turn the ball over 20 times and UNC Asheville stole the ball 12 times. Nadiria Evans led the Bulldogs with 14 points while Sonora Dengokl was right behind with 12.
Prior to the victory against USC Upstate, UNC Asheville battled with Campbell Saturday afternoon inside Kimmel Arena. A strong start fueled the Bulldogs to a 60-52 victory as UNC Asheville claimed their second Big South Conference win of the season. Evans led the Bulldogs with her second 20+ point scoring figure of the season. Dengokl scored 14 points while Amaryah Corpening scored a career-high 12 points. It was the sixth time this season that the Bulldogs have had three players score in doubles figures.
High Point (4-9, 2-2) opened Big South Conference play with two straight losses on the road. They opened with a 73-36 loss to Campbell in Buies Creek before falling by six to Winthrop in Rock Hill. The Panthers then returned home and secured a dominating 85-46 victory against USC Upstate. They then turned around and stunned the preseason favorite Radford by defeating the Highlanders 68-58 at home for their second conference win of the season. High Point has won only one road game this season.
All-time, High Point holds the advantage over the Bulldogs as the Panthers lead 38-15. High Point won the first two matchups back in the 1980-81 and 1981-82 seasons before UNC Asheville won a streak of four straight from 1982 to 1995. The Bulldogs and the Panthers have split the last four matchups with each team winning one at home and one on the road over the last two seasons.
