Bulldogs Fall to Spartans

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's basketball dropped its first game of the season Friday night to UNC Greensboro, 67-40.
The Bulldogs scored first on a layup by Sonora Dengokl 45 seconds into the game but the Spartans answered with a strong first quarter where they put up 17 points. The Bulldog offense struggled to find a groove in the first half as they faced a 39-14 deficit at the half.
Nadiria Evans and Amaryah Corpening led UNC Asheville with six points each in the second half as the Bulldogs looked to chip away at the lead. The Bulldogs scored 26 points in the second half but the first half deficit proved to be too much as UNC Asheville (3-1) dropped their first match of the season.
Evans and Corpening led the Bulldogs with eight points each while Zip Scott, Sonora Dengokl and Juliet Esadah all finished the game with five.
Esadah and Jimeshia Lawson each corralled eight rebounds in the game. All of Lawson's rebounds were from the offensive end of the court while six of Esadah's were offensive rebounds.
The Bulldogs capitalized on their second chance opportunities in the second half as they outscored the Spartans 12-5 in second chance points in the final two quarters of the game.

The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround as they will take on Montreat at 11:30 a.m., Monday, December 2, in UNC Asheville's annual Education Day. Over 2000 youth from local schools are expected to be in attendance.
