Bulldogs Down Cavaliers in Education Day Matchup

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's basketball defeated the Montreat Cavaliers, 89-45, on Monday in the Bulldogs' annual Education Day game.
UNC Asheville forced a total of 29 turnovers in the game and secured 17 steals versus Montreat on Monday. Both of those totals are the most the Bulldogs have ever accumulated inside Kimmel Arena. Prior to Monday's matchup, the last time the Bulldogs broke either total was versus Montreat in the 2007-08 season.
The Bulldogs scored first on a made free throw from redshirt senior Sonora Dengokl 10 seconds into the game and the Bulldogs didn't look back from there as they held the lead for the entirety of the game.
At the end of the first quarter UNC Asheville had a narrow 13-10 lead and Dengokl led with nine total points in the opening quarter. Junior Nadiria Evans corralled four rebounds in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs began to pull away in quarter two as they had a 41-23 lead at the half. UNC Asheville put up 28 points in the second quarter and the Bulldog bench put up 16 with Evonna McGill leading the way with six and Freshman Kai Carter scoring five.
The Bulldogs allowed the Cavaliers to score only 10 in the third quarter while UNC Asheville managed to put up 24 points in the quarter. Evans became the second Bulldog of the day to score nine points in a single quarter by putting up nine in the third.
UNC Asheville scored 24 more points in the fourth quarter while shooting 50% from the field. Six different Bulldogs scored three or more points in the final quarter of the game.
10 Bulldogs in all scored in the affair with Dengokl leading the way with 17, matching her season high. Evans put up a double digit scoring figure for the third time this season with 16 points. McGill and Carter each broke double digits for the first time this season with both scoring 11 while coming off the bench.

Washington scored eight which breaks her previous high of three which she scored against UNC Greensboro.
UNC Asheville will end its three game homestand with a 2 p.m. matchup with South Carolina State, Sunday, December 8, inside Kimmel Arena.
