Women’s Soccer to Recognize Seven Seniors on Saturday Versus Radford

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will recognize its seven seniors, as the Bulldogs will close out their regular season home schedule on Saturday, Oct. 20 versus Radford.

The contest will commence at 3:30 p.m. at Greenwood Field but arrive early for the pre-game ceremonies for the seven graduating Bulldogs.

About the Seven Graduating Bulldogs

UNC Asheville women's soccer is going to recognize seven graduating Bulldogs – Maddie Getz, Bella Iorio, Ryanna Hammond, Kyra Kandel, Justine James, Ellie Stone and Maura Coolbaugh.

Between the seven players they have combined for 319 games played, 19,776 minutes played, 16 goals scored, 10 assists, 42 points, 14 shutouts and five game-winning goals.

About UNC Asheville

UNC Asheville enters its final home game of the regular season with a 3-7-4 overall record and a 2-4-2 mark in Big South Conference matches. In their last three home games the Bulldogs are undefeated (2-0-1).

In the last three home games the Bulldogs have out-scored their opposition, 4-2. In fact half of the goals scored have been game winners. Kandel tallied the game-winning goal in the double overtime victory over Hampton, and James scored the decisive goal in the 2-1 win over Winthrop. Also during the same stretch James has been on fire, as she leads the squad with one goal, two assists and four points. Maya Gutman paces the squad with eight shots and three shots on target.

Overall at home UNC Asheville has a winning record at 3-2-2. Six different Bulldogs have scored at Greenwood Field this season. Sophomore Skyler Chillson leads the team with two goals scored. Freshman goalkeeper Courtney O'Malley has been impressive on her home turf, as she has started in five games and has played 507 minutes. She totes an impressive 0.71 goals against average, .909 save percentage and a pair of shutouts.

Scouting the Highlanders

Radford travels to Asheville with an 11-2-1 overall record and a 7-1 mark in league contests. The Highlanders currently sport a six-game win streak, and during that stretch they have out-scored Big South foes, 15-5.

The Highlander offense is led by Jasmine Casarez and Jessica Wollmann. Both Highlanders have eight goals this year. Casarez paces the squad with 19 points, as she has three assists this year. Wollman is one point behind her teammate, as she has a pair of assists on the season.

Nelia Perez is also a threat on the offensive side for Radford. The junior forward has nine total assists this year, which also includes a three-assist match versus USC Upstate two games ago. With her nine assists Perez is currently tied for seventh in NCAA Division I.

In net Courtenay Kaplan has played in 12 matches, including 11 starts. She has totaled over 934 minutes between the pipes. The junior goalkeeper has a 1.25 goals against average and a .800 save percentage. Radford has also used sophomore Lexi Dean in net, as she has appeared in seven games with three starts. She leads the goalkeeping core with a .750 goals against average and a .857 save percentage.

Last Time Out Versus Radford

The Bulldogs and Highlanders squared off last year in Radford, Va., and the Highlanders claimed a 3-1 victory over the Bulldogs. Courtney Naber tallied the lone goal of the contest for Asheville in the 66th minute.

Two years ago at Greenwood Field Radford edged the Bulldogs, 2-1. Caroline Houser tried to lead a comeback late in the 88th minute, but the surge fell short.

What's Next?

To conclude the regular season, the Bulldogs will travel to Clinton, S.C. to square off with Presbyterian on Tuesday, Oct. 23. The match will start at 7 p.m. at Martin Stadium.

The Bulldogs and Blue Hose were originally set to play on Sept. 26, but the match was postponed due to inclement weather in Clinton.
