Women's Soccer Battles, but Falls at Furman on Sunday

GREENVILLE, S.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer battled, but fell at Furman on Sunday (Aug. 30) by a score of 1-0 in non-conference action.

The teams traded runs and possessions throughout the first half, with Furman registering five shots in the period to Asheville's three. Asheville got some support from between the pipes in the opening frame, with three big saves from London Phoenix to send the game to the half scoreless.

Furman would break the tie with a goal in the 50th minute, with Bri Prinasco scoring from Hayden Barnett for the eventual game-winner. Barnett fed a ball down the near wing, and Furman advanced numbers into the box to threaten a cross. Prinasco was able to score from the right edge of the box to give the Paladins a 1-0 lead. Asheville would threaten runs as the second half went on, but Prinasco's winner would prove to be the difference in the match when the final horn sounded.

Asheville totaled eight shots in the match, along with one corner kick. Lili Adams and Kathleen Doane each registered two shots in the match, with Doane registering a new career-high. Arna Hogarth-Scott, Haydan Erck, Kandis Calvin and Georgia Duke each also posted one shot in the contest. Phoenix also collected a career-high five saves between the pipes.
