Women’s Soccer Travels to Radford for Mid-Week Clash

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team looks to rebound as the Bulldogs travel to Radford on Wednesday, Oct. 18 as the two teams square off at 7 p.m. at Cupp Stadium.

About UNC Asheville
The Bulldogs enter the mid-week clash with a 6-8-1 overall record and a 2-4 Big South Conference mark this year.
Currently, Asheville has scored in five consecutive matches where it has averaged 1.8 goals per contest in that stretch. Also in the previous five matches, Caroline Houser has scored three times, and Courtney Naber has found the net twice. The Bulldogs have scored nine goals in that stretch with five different players tallying an assist.
Last week, sophomore forward Rachel Snyder scored her first goal of the season and the fourth of her career as she scored in the 31st minute at Winthrop. Senior defender Katie Tuorto tallied her first assist of the year as Caroline Houser netted the lone goal for the Bulldogs versus Longwood. The assist was Tuorto's first of the year and the second of her career.
In the national rankings, UNC Asheville is still in the top 5 in fewest fouls per game as the Bulldogs are now 3rd with 5.67. Leading the team in average shots per game is Naber with 3.36, which is 74th in the nation. As a team, Asheville is ranked 78th in shots on goal per game at 6.87.
Scouting Radford
The Highlanders host Wednesday's match with a 9-6 overall mark and a 2-5 conference record.
Radford started its season red-hot as it won six straight including four from Southern Conference members. In its hot start, it won all six matches by an average of 2.33 goals. The Highlanders opened their Big South slate with a 5-2 victory at Winthrop, but Radford lost five consecutive matches including three in overtime. However, the team rebounded as it downed Presbyterian 2-0 at home this past Saturday.
Radford's offense is one of the focal points for the squad as it averages 2.13 goals per game this year (32 goals in 15 games). Leading the surge is junior midfielder Jasmine Cesarez with 10 goals. The California native also leads the team in points (21), shots (75) and shots on goal (30) while tying for first with a trio of game-winning goals. Jessica Wollmann and Gabi Paupst each have at least five goals this year as they along with Cesarez have accounted for 21 of the team's 32 goals.
Allyson Giannone leads Radford with ten assists, which is tied for second in the country. Right behind her is Wollmann who has seven assists, and Nelia Perez has six assists along with 14 points.
Freshman goalkeeper Lexi Dean has started most of the matches in goal for the Highlanders as she has started 10 and appeared in 11 games. She sports a 6-3 record and a 1.58 goals against average. However, sophomore Courtenay Kaplan has started four matches between the posts where she leads the team with a .781 save percentage.
