How It Happened
In the 8th minute, Radford opened the match as Nelia Perez netted her fifth goal of the year.
The Highlanders doubled their lead 10 minutes later as Jessica Wollmann found the back of the net. Gabi Paupst fed the ball over the Asheville backline, and Wollmann beat the UNC Asheville goalkeeper to give her team a 2-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs started to up the pressure in the 19th minute as Asheville struck four combined shots on goal from Naber, Emma Houser and Skyler Chillson. However, Asheville was unable to find the back of the net during the nine-minute stretch.
Radford looked to extend its lead before the half as two Highlanders each put a shot on goal in the final two minutes, but freshman goalkeeper Bryson Lee corralled the saves to keep the score at 2-0.
Despite down two goals at half, Chillson and Naber continued to attack the net as they took two shots on goal eight minutes into the second half.
One of the best chances for the Bulldogs to find the net was from Taylor Barber as she took a shot that hit the crossbar in the 55th minute.
The Bulldog attack finally broke through in the 66th minute when Naber tallied her seventh goal of the year. Erika Snyder pushed the ball toward the box, and following a redirection from Chillson, Naber buried the shot to make it a 2-1 match.
The Highlanders' leading goal scorer, Jasmine Casarez, ultimately scored the dagger in the 69th minute as she tallied her 11th goal of the year and solidified the 3-1 victory for Radford.
With the loss, Asheville falls to 6-9-1 overall and 2-5 in the Big South Conference, and Radford advances to 10-6 overall and 3-5 in the league.
