RADFORD, Va.? Eric Evans threw a six hit complete game shut out as he out dueled UNC Asheville's Alan DeRatt who also threw a complete game in Radford's 4-0 victory in game one of a three-game series on Friday afternoon.

Radford (17-24, 4-9 Big South) gave Evans (3-4) all the run support he would need in the first inning. Tyren Evans drew a lead-off walk and moved to third on a single by Mario Duarte and scored on a RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Alex Gregory.

Gregory made it 2-0 with a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning. It was his 11th of the year to tie him for the Big South lead in home runs.

DeRatt (6-2) allowed just two hits over the first six innings but UNC Asheville (18-28, 2-11 Big South) did not give him any run support. The Bulldogs threatened in the second inning putting runners at first and third with two out. After that, the Dogs would not get a runner to second base the rest of the game.

Beau Zinman had two hits for Asheville. Kevin Weidenbacher, Reed Kreiser, Danny Baatz, and Catlin Carter each had one hit. The Dogs left five runners on base in the game.

Radford blew the game open with two runs in the eighth inning. Reggie Keen led off with a double and scored on a base hit by Raphael Turner. Turner was sacrificed to second, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on a ground out to prove the final margin.

Evans threw his second complete game allowing six hits without walking a batter. He did hit one batter and struck out five Bulldogs. DeRatt went eight innings for his second complete game of the year. He allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits. He walked one and struck out two batters. DeRatt's ERA went up to 1.24 on the season.

The top three batters in the Radford order, Evans, Duatre, and Gregory combined to go 5-for-11 in the game while the final six batters went 3-for-18. The top of the Asheville order went a combined 1-for-11. The game took just an hour and 51 minutes to play.

The two teams will play on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. with Michael Bogaert expected to pitch for Asheville against Radford's Cassidy McDaniel. The game is the Big South Game of the Week on the Edge.
