ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville scored three runs in the seventh inning to rally past North Carolina A&T, 6-5 at McCormick Field Wednesday night.

Freshman reliever Taylor Wohlwend (1-4) picked up his first career victory as he tossed 2.2 innings and allowed one run on one hit. Senior Ben Buchanan pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the year.

The Aggies (19-24) had a five-game winning streak snapped. C.J. Beatty, Jeremy Jones and Cyril Daniel all had two hits for North Carolina A&T. Jones hit a long home run over the center-field wall in the eighth inning.

"We beat a very good North Carolina A&T club tonight," stated UNC Asheville coach Willie Stewart. "I was really pleased with the way we were able to come back after getting down (4-3). We had some clutch two-out hitting and got some solid pitching. This is a nice win to get before going to Radford this weekend."

Trailing 4-3, Asheville (18-27) scored three runs in the seventh inning to take the lead for good. Kevin Mattison had a bunt single with one out. He stole second and scored on Elliott Arrington's run-scoring single to knot the game at 4-4. Arrington went to second on the throw.

Justin Schumer followed with a double off the left-field wall to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 lead. One out later, Danny Baatz singled in Schumer to give Asheville a 6-4 advantage.

The Aggies got one run back in the eighth on Jones' eighth home run of the season to cut the lead to 6-5. NCAT threatened in the ninth off Buchanan as pinch-hitter Joe Wade doubled. However, Buchanan was able to get the final two outs of the game to allow Asheville to get the hard-fought victory.

The Bulldogs struck for three runs in the second inning to move in front, 3-0. Asheville loaded the bases with one out. Schumer singled to open the inning, followed by a walk and an Aggie error.

With two outs, Tyler Jankowski singled to center field, scoring Schumer for a 1-0 Asheville lead. A walk to Kevin Weidenbacher plated another run for a 2-0 advantage. A wild pitch scored the final run of the inning.

The Aggies scored their first run of the game in the fourth when Beatty doubled in George Hines to cut the Asheville to 3-1.

North Carolina A&T took the lead with three runs in the sixth. Hines reached on an error to begin the inning. Jones singled to put runners on first and second. Beatty's run-scoring single scored Hines to make it 3-2. A walk to Joe McIntyre loaded the bases. Nick Rogers then singled to left, plating two runs for a 4-3 Aggie lead.

Asheville was able to get out of the inning without any more damage thanks to a great throw by Mattison from center field. With runners on first and third and one out, Neil Rosser hit a fly ball to center. Mattison caught the ball and fired a perfect strike to home plate and got McIntyre out to end the inning.

UNC Asheville will return to Big South Conference play this Friday afternoon when the Bulldogs travel Radford. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
