Bulldogs Drop Game Two 2-1 at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C.? High Point starter Sean Murphy gave up an unearned run on three hits and the Panthers scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning to take a 2-1 victory over UNC Asheville in the second game of their three game series on Saturday night.
Asheville (12-16, 0-2 Big South) is now 0-7 in night games this season. Michael Bogaert took the loss for the Dogs going 6.1 innings allowing two unearned runs on six hits as he drops to 4-3 on the season.
The fourth inning was the only inning the Dogs would score in for the second day in a row. In the last three games, Asheville has scored a total of nine fourth inning runs.
Kevin Mattison, who saw an eight game hit streak come to an end reached on a error leading of the top of the fourth. Kevin Weidenbacher doubled down the right field line to extend his school record hit streak to 23 straight games putting Dogs at second and third with no body out. Elliott Arrington grounded to shortstop to score Mattison and give Asheville a 1-0 lead.
High Point who has scored in just two innings in the series got both of its runs in the sixth. With one out, Jeff Cowen reached on an error. Pablo Rosario singe to right and both runners moved up a base on another Asheville error. Billy Alvino singled off of Bogaert's glove to score Cowen to tie the game and Matt Gantner singled home Rosario with the game winner.
Bubba O'Donnell pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his third save in the last three nights.
Justin Schumer had a lead off single in the seventh and Johnny Martinez had a one out single in the eighth to account of all of Asheville's offense.
