Bulldogs Take Game One from Hartford 9-1

ASHEVILLE, N.C.?Kevin Mattison and Catlin Carter each had three hits a piece and Alan DeRatt moved his record to 5-0 as UNC Asheville defeated Hartford 9-1 in the first game of a three-game series at Greenwood Field on Thursday.
Mattison led off the bottom of the first inning with his fifth home run of the season. He also had a single and a triple as he scored twice and drove in two runs.
The Bulldogs (9-11) scored three times in the second inning. Reed Kreiser was hit by a pitch, Brett Robinson singled Kreiser to third where he would score on a RBI-single by Beau Zinman. Robinson went to third on a double play and scored on a passed ball. Back-to-back walks to Chris Freeman and Mattison placed runners at first and second. Kevin Wiedenbacher extended his hitting streak to 15-straight games with a single to score Freeman and make the score 4-0.
That was plenty of run support for DeRatt (5-0) who went seven innings allowing an unearned run on seven hits. He walked two batters and struck out four hitters.
The Dogs extended the lead with four runs in the seventh off of Sobocinski. Kreiser led off with a double and was at third base with two outs. Carter delivered another RBI single in front of a RBI double by Freeman. Mattison followed with a RBI triple and Wiedenbacher singled home Mattison to make the final score 9-1.
Matt Dalby came on to pitch the final two innings for the Bulldogs. He allowed just one hit and fanned one batter.
The two teams will play game two of the series on Friday at
