Bulldogs Squeeze Out 6-5 Win at NC A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C.? Brett Robinson's sacrifice bunt in the top of the ninth inning scored Elliott Arrington from third base with the go ahead run and Justin Schumer retired the side in the bottom half of the ninth to give UNC Asheville a 6-5 victory over North Carolina A&T on Tuesday.
Arrington led off the ninth inning with a walk. Eric Valdez had a bunt single to place runners at first and second. Beau Zinman then sacrificed the runners to second and third with one out. Robinson laid down the squeeze bunt to score Arrington to give Asheville (6-8) a 6-5 lead.
Phillip Brewington led off the bottom the ninth with a base hit for A&T (3-10). After a fly out, Brewington was caught stealing and Schumer got Lester Rivenbark to ground out to end the game. It was Schumer's third save of the season.
Jeremy Hall (1-1) pick up the win in relief for Asheville going 2.1 innings and allowing just one hit. Chris Eggers (0-1) took the loss for A&T.
Asheville got on the board first in the top of the second inning. Arrington led off with a double, moved to third base on a passed ball, and scored on a RBI single by Danny Baatz.
A&T took the lead in the bottom of the second inning on back-to-back home runs by CJ Betty and Nick Rogers.
The Bulldogs re-took the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth. Catlin Carter drew a one out walk in front of back-to-back singles by Kevin Wiedenbacher and Kevin Mattison that loaded the bases. Reed Kreiser was hit by a pitch to force home Carter with the tying run. Schumer delivered a two-RBI single to put the Dogs up 4-2.
A&T loaded the bases with no one out in the bottom of the inning but could only manage a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-3.
Asheville added a run in the sixth loading the bases with one out. Schumer delivered a RBI single for his third RBI of the game.
The Aggies loaded the bases with no one out again in the bottom of the sixth. This two sacrifice flies tied the game at 5-5 where it remained until the ninth inning.
The top six batters in the Bulldog line-up collected 11 of the 12 Asheville hit in the game. Wiedenbacher, Mattison, Kreiser, Arrington, and Baatz each had two hits a piece. The Dogs left 14 runners on base in the game.
Asheville will travel to Furman on Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. game.
