Green Scores Career-High in Loss to Wofford

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball saw Nia Green score a career-high 16 points in an 80-54 loss to Wofford inside Kimmel Arena on Tuesday (Nov. 25).
The teams traded scores through the first three and a half minutes to knot up at 7-all, before Wofford would go on a 16-3 run through the final five and a half minutes of the period to take a 23-10 lead to the second.
Wofford stretched its lead to 15 early in the second quarter, before three quick buckets from Asheville forced a Wofford timeout and the deficit back to nine. Out of the timeout, Wofford used a 20-5 run to pull away in the frame as the Terriers took a 45-23 lead to the half.
Each team scored 18 points in the third quarter as Wofford took a 63-41 lead to the fourth. Wofford would outscore Asheville 17-13 in the fourth quarter to bring the game to its final score.
Asheville shot 30.2 percent (16-53) from the field, 33.3 percent (5-15) from long range and 65.4 percent (17-26) from the foul line in the game. Asheville also scored five points off turnovers, 18 points in the paint, 10 points on second chances, four points on fast breaks and five points off the bench in the game. Green set a new career-high with 16 points including a career-best 6-8 from the foul line, while Jamaria Freeman matched her career-high with 16 points on a career-best 5-14 shooting. Aileen Marquez added 12 points in the game, while Deborah Orianegbena had five and D'yanna Maxey and Kristen McMillan each had two. Kamaria Gipson also had one point in the game. Green also led the way with seven boards in the game, while Orianegbena had six and Freeman matched her career-high with five. Marquez and Journee McDaniel each had three, while Maxey and Gipson each grabbed one rebound in the game. Freeman dished out a career-high six assists in the game, while McDaniel and Maxey each had two and McMillan also had one. Freeman led the Bulldogs with two steals, while Green and Marquez each had one. Green also registered both of Asheville's blocks in the game.
