Wilkins Posts Career Night in Loss to Gardner-Webb

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Redshirt junior Taylor Wilkins posted a career-best night in a 77-65 loss to Gardner-Webb Wednesday night (Jan. 22).Â

Gardner-Webb opened the game on a 10-4 run through the first quarter media timeout, before Asheville countered with a 10-8 run to close the quarter with Gardner-Webb up 18-14.

Gardner-Webb outscored UNC Asheville 16-15 in a tightly-played second quarter to take a 34-29 lead to the half. The teams traded scores before Gardner-Webb opened up a 10-2 run to go ahead by nine with just over two minutes to play in the half. Asheville closed the quarter scoring the final six points on a pair of Dakota McCaughan three-pointers.

Gardner-Webb began to pull away in the third quarter winning the frame 26-21. Gardner-Webb extended its lead to nine early in the frame, before the lead eventually grew to 11 just before the halfway point of the period. Asheville was able to trim the lead to as few as seven in the period, as Gardner-Webb took their lead to the fourth.

Wilson pulled down seven rebounds in the game to bring her career total to 592, passing Nicole Sampson (1997-01) into 13th all-time on Asheville's career rebounding list. Swift had four boars in the game, while Simmons had three and McCaughan, Jazlyn Ware and Wilkins each had two.
