Bulldogs Return to Blacksburg for Big South Indoor Championships

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville Track and Field team is geared up and ready for the Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships, which begins this Friday, Feb. 23, at the Rector Field House at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va.
Ahead of the Championships, Asheville's men are No. 4 in the Big South with 263 points. The top three points scorers for the season are Zac Weas (60m Hurdles, 22.88 pts), Adam Hessler (5000m, 21.55 pts), and Alex Haines (20.44 pts). The women are currently ranked fifth with 191 points. The highest points scorers on the women's side this season have been Brianna Moore (Long jump, 23.66 pts), the DMR squad (Isabel Richardson, Amanda Orban, Alison Graf and Emma Kennett, 19.55 pts) and Mallory Haney (18.69 pts). High Point University tops the Conference tables for both men and women.Â
LAST TIME OUTÂ
The Bulldogs closed the regular season strong at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational on Feb. 9-10. Asheville had three individuals break program records throughout the weekend. Junior Alison Graf took the women's 1000m record at 2:57.28. Shortly after, Jalen Anderson rebroke his 200m record from the previous weekend (21.58) with his time of 21.43. Senior Adam Hessler joined Anderson with his third broken record in three meets after he took first place in the men's open mile in 4:11.72.
THIS TIME LAST YEARÂ
At the 2023 Big South Indoor Championships, UNC Asheville had 11 podium finishes, four conference champions secured, and three program records shattered. The four conference titles came from Claudia Prieto (long jump), Zac Weas (60-meter hurdles), Solomon McDonald (shot put), and Adam Hessler (5000-meter run).Â
