Bulldogs fall to Boston College, 11-6

03.08.2023 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team fell to Boston College on Wednesday night in non-conference action by a score of 11-6 at Greenwood Field. The loss moves Asheville's record to 8-4 on the 2023 season.

The Bulldogs notched 10 hits against the Eagles and four players logged multi-hit days. Tylan Reece went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Cameron Johnson logged two hits in a 2-for-4 day with a RBI and a run scored. Both Dylan Bacot (2-for-4, two runs scored) and Kohl Abrams (2-for-3, one run scored) continued their stellar starts offensively on Wednesday as well.

Asheville used seven pitchers on Wednesday against the Eagles. The tandem of Dawson Salter and Brett Johnson both tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, while Michael Groves made his collegiate pitching debut on Wednesday. Groves struck out two batters in one inning in his debut on the mound.

Boston College was able to score an unearned run in the first and tacked on another with a solo home run in the second to open an early 2-0 lead on the Bulldogs. However, Asheville battled back with single runs in the second and third innings to tie the score at 2-2.

The Eagles, however, would score five runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to open a 10-2 lead on Asheville.

After a rocky start, the Bulldog bullpen settled down and held BC to one run over the final four innings. Asheville two in the fifth and seventh innings but the sizable lead that the Eagles built stood up as they won Wednesday's game, 11-6, and improved to 10-1 on the season.

Asheville will be back in action this weekend when it welcomes UMass to Greenwood Field for a three-game series. Friday's series opener is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. first pitch time on Saturday and on Noon on Sunday. All three games are scheduled to be on ESPN+.
