Baseball readies for a series vs. UMass

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team will be back in action this weekend when it takes on UMass in a three-game series. The series will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday followed by a game on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (Noon). All three games, which are free admission courtesy of Ingles, are slated to air on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – Asheville dropped a 11-6 decision to Boston College on Wednesday. The loss moves the Bulldogs' record to 8-4 on the season.
Abrams off to a Great Start – Kohl Abrams is off to a hot start offensively in 2023. Abrams ranks second in the Big South with a .459 batting average and he leads the league with an on-base percentage of .600. Abrams, who has started every game at shortstop this spring, already has eight multi-hit performances in 2023.
Run Producers – The Bulldog lineup also has two of the top run-producers in the Big South this season. Dylan Bacot leads the conference with 19 RBI, while fellow Bulldog Robbie Burnett isn't far behind with 16 runs driven in.
Pitching off to a Strong Start – Asheville also boasts the lowest team ERA in the Big South (4.81). Two major pitchers in that effort has been Ryan Douglas and Justin Honeycutt. Douglas leads the Big South with a 1.62 ERA, is second with 23 strikeouts, and is tied for the fourth-lowest opponent batting average (.203). Justin Honeycutt has also had a stellar start to 2023. He is 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA and he ranks second in the Big South in opponent batting average (.161).
About the Minutemen – UMass will bring a 2-1 record with it to UNC Asheville this weekend. In their lone series of the season, the Minutemen won two of three games at Navy. A player to watch is Steve Luttazi as he hit .714 with five hits in seven at-bats in the first series of the season at Navy.
