Bulldogs Power Past Iona for Saturday Doubleheader Sweep

Game One
Iona got the scoring started with three runs in the top of the second, before the Bulldogs got it all back and then some in the bottom of the third on a Dylan Bacot grand slam to go ahead 4-3. Iona countered with a run in the top half of the fourth to tie the game, before Asheville would take the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. Michael Groves led off the inning with a solo shot to right to put the Bulldogs ahead 5-4, before Robbie Burnett later drew a bases-loaded walk to score Tylan Reece and scratch across another run. Reece would tack on another run in the fifth with a solo homer down the left field line, before the Bulldogs would add two more runs in the sixth. Kaufman would score on a Bacot double down the left field line, before Bacot would come around to score on a Cameron Johnson single down the right field line. Iona would get three runs back in the top half of the seventh, before Asheville would plate five runs over the final three innings. Kaufman would bring home two runs with a double down the right field line to score Khole Abrams and Brock Mercado, before scoring from second a few pitches later on a Burnett single up the middle. Burnett would later score on an Iona error, while Asheville's final run came on a Derw Bristow solo jack down the left field line.
Bacot, Johnson and Abrams each had two hits in the game, while Kaufman, Burnett, Groves, Reece and Bristow each had one. Bacot drove in five runs in the contest, while Kaufman and Burnett each brought home two and Johnson, Groves, Reece and Bristow each drove home one. Clay Edmondson (3-0) picked up his third win of the season, scattering seven hits and four earned runs over six innings while walking two and punching out five. Justin Needles relieved Edmondson with 0.2 innings of work, allowing three runs on three hits with two walks. Blake Little picked up his second save of the season, allowing one walk and firing six strikeouts over 2.1 innings of relief work.
Game Two
The Bulldogs got going offensively right away in the second game, when Kaufman tripled down the right field line before scoring on a Burnett groundout. Bacot would double the lead with his second homer of the day for a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs would add another run in the second when a two-out Abrams single through the left side brought home Reece, before Burnett would add to the lead with a solo jack in the third. The Bulldogs doubled their lead with four runs in the fourth, with Burnett drawing a bases-loaded walk to score Tony Castonguay before Bacot lifted a sacrifice fly to left to score both Kaufman and Abrams. After advancing to second on Bacot's fly ball and third on a wild pitch, Burnett would score on a Corbin Lanowitz single down the right field line. Asheville would add two runs in the bottom half of the fifth, first on a one-out Kaufman single up the middle that brought home Castonguay then a Burnett fielder's choice coupled with an Iona error. Asheville's final run of the game came in the bottom of the seventh, when Bacot delivered a two-out double to center to score Castonguay. Iona would scrape across their lone run in the top half of the eighth.
Kaufman, Bacot and Abrams each recorded two hits in the game, while Burnett, Lanowitz and Reece each also had one hit in the game. Bacot drove in four runs in the game, while Burnett also brought home three and Kaufman, Abrams and Lanowitz each had one run batted in in the contest. Ryan Douglas registered a career outing in the game, firing a career-best 11 strikeouts and scattering five hits over seven innings. Bryce Fisher closed the game out, allowing one run on two hits along with three strikeouts over the final two innings.
