Women's Golf Wraps Up Play at the Rivertowne Invitational

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - UNC Asheville women's golf wrapped up play at the Rivertowne Invitational on Tuesday (Feb. 28) at Rivertowne Golf Club.
The Bulldogs played to a 14th-place finish, shooting 310 (+22) on the day as a team.
"I was really expecting great things today and they just didn't happen," said head coach Ross Cash. "Nothing seemed to go right today, we never got any momentum. It's disappointing, but we have a nice break in the schedule before Wofford's tournament at Moss Creek in Hilton Head. We will bounce back."
Kayla Benge finished in a tie for 16th individually after shooting a 77 (+5) on the final day, while Madyson Gold also shot a 77 in her final round and finished tied for 39th. Phoebe Carles finished in a tie for 45th after an 81 (+9), while Venecia Zaia turned in a 76 (+4) to finish in a tie for 75th. Ally Kerr also shot an 80 (+8) on the final day of play for the Bulldogs.
Zaia began her day on the back nine shooting even through the first four holes, before recording a bogey on No. 14. She would make par on the next three holes, before finishing the back nine with a bogey on No. 18 before making the turn. Zaia began the front nine with a birdie on No. 1 and a par on No. 2, before she battled through bogeys on three straight holes to birdie No. 6. She finished her round with a bogey on No. 7 and pars on No. 8 and No. 9.
Benge started her day with a bogey on No. 8, before making par on No. 9 and turning to the back. She would make par on No. 10 and No. 11, before making bogey on No. 12 and par on No. 13. After a bogey on No. 14, she would score par on three straight holes before recording a bogey on No. 18 and turning back to the front. Benge would par No. 1 through No. 6, before finishing her day with a bogey on No. 7.
Gold began her day with a par on No. 9, before turning to the back and making par on No. 10 through No. 14. After a bogey on No. 15, Gold scored par on No. 16 and No. 17 before finishing the back with a double bogey on No. 18. Gold would start the front with pars on No. 1 and No. 2. She would go on to make birdie on No. 3, double bogey on No. 4 and bogeys on No. 5 and No. 6. She concluded her round with a par on No. 7 and a birdie on No. 8.
The Bulldogs return to action Mar. 17-19 at the Low Country Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford University at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
