Women's Basketball Drops Road Conference Contest at USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Asheville women's basketball dropped its Big South Conference road contest at USC Upstate on Saturday (Jan. 21) by a score of 66-55.
The Bulldogs fought from the start, trailing just 11-7 after one quarter.
USC Upstate was able to take control in the second quarter, as the Bulldogs battled through the second half. Asheville put together solid possessions in the fourth quarter, out-scoring USC Upstate 23-14 in the period.
In the game, Asheville out-scored Upstate 17-14 off turnovers, 8-4 on second chances and 22-21 off the bench while also scoring 14 points in the paint and three off of fast breaks.
McKinley Brooks-Sumpter led the Bulldogs with 13 points in the game, while Dakota McCaughan also had 11. Faith Adams contributed seven points in the game, while Jamaya Blanks had six. Abigail Wilson, Mallory Bruce and Jordaynia Ivie each scored five points in the game, while Jamia Blake had two and Jada Brigman had one. Brooks-Sumpter also led the team with eight rebounds, while Wilson and Ivie each had four. Blanks, Bruce, Blake, Brigman and Nycerra Minnis each had two rebounds in the game, while Adams also had one. McCaughan led the team with four assists in the game, while Brooks-Sumpter had three, Blanks had two and Adams also contributed one. Ivie registered a game-high four steals, while Wilson matched her career-high with three and Adams and Bruce each had two. McCaughan and Brooks-Sumpter each also had one in the game. Wilson also set a new career-high with three blocks in the game for Asheville.
