Women's Basketball Battles, but Falls on the Road at Presbyterian

 CLINTON, S.C. - UNC Asheville women's basketball battled on the road at Presbyterian Wednesday night (Jan. 25), but fell in its Big South Conference contest by a score of 67-53.
The teams played to early ties throughout the first quarter, before back-to-back three-pointers by Dakota McCaughan had the Bulldogs up six with three minutes to play in the frame. Presbyterian rattled off eight unanswered points to end the quarter up 18-16.
Asheville battled early in the second quarter as Presbyterian saw its lead grow, before a pair of McKinley Brooks-Sumpter free throws in the final two minutes of the half pulled the Bulldogs back within single digits. Presbyterian would take a 39-28 lead to the half.
The Bulldogs battled through the second half, battling back throughout the early stages of the fourth quarter. A five-point run over two possessions from Brooks-Sumpter got Asheville back within seven with seven minutes to play, before Presbyterian re-gained a double-digit lead that it held until the final horn.
Asheville out-scored Presbyterian 21-19 off the bench, while scoring five points off turnovers, 14 in the paint and eight on second chances. The Bulldogs also continued their Big South-leading three-point defense, holding Presbyterian to just 18.8 percent (3-16) from beyond the arc. Brooks-Sumpter led the Bulldogs with a game-high 17 points in the game, while McCaughan finished with 14. Jamaya Blanks added six, while Jordaynia Ivie and Abigail Wilson each had five. Mallory Bruce contributed three points, while Faith Adams had two and Jamia Blake had one. Wilson led the Bulldogs with six rebounds in the game, while Adams had four and Ivie had three. Brooks-Sumpter, Blanks, Blake and Nycerra Minnis each pulled down two rebounds in the game, while McCaughan and Bruce each had one. Blanks dished out a team-high two assists in the game, while Brooks-Sumpter, Blake and Bruce each had one. Blake and Adams each had a team-high two steals in the game, while Blanks and McCaughan each had one.
The Bulldogs return home to the floor in Kimmel Arena on Saturday (Jan. 28) to wrap up the regular season series with Campbell.
