Longwood upends Asheville to open Big South play

The Bulldogs, who move to 4-12 with the loss, were led on Friday by the tandem of Corbin Lanowitz and Cam Johnson. Lanowitz reached base a total of four times in the contest thanks to a pair of singles and two walks. Lanowitz also scored one of Asheville's runs and drove in another. Johnson, meanwhile, went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Rounding out the offensive leaders for the Bulldogs were Dominic Freeberger and Tylan Reece, as both players notched hits and drove in a run apiece.
Longwood wasted little time to pounce on the Bulldogs on Friday. In the bottom of the first, the Lancers batted around, scored four runs, and chased Asheville's starter, Bryce Fisher, after recording just one out. Longwood tacked on two more runs in the second and five in the fourth to go with added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh to close out the scoring.
Overall, the Bulldogs used five pitchers on Friday. Fisher took the loss for the Bulldogs dropping his record to 0-3. Dawson Salter fared the best of the Bulldog relievers that saw action on Friday, tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Salter also struck out three hitters in his appearance.
Game two of the series between the Bulldogs and Lancers will be played Saturday. The first pitch for that contest is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
