Bulldogs finish fifth at the Jupiter Women’s Invitational

JUPITER, Fla. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team posted its best finish in a fall tournament to date finishing fifth at the Jupiter Women's Invitational on Tuesday. Individually, the Bulldogs were led by Madyson Gold, who finished tied for third shooting a +4 for the three-round tournament.
The Bulldogs improved their scores as they became more familiar with the course. Asheville shot a collective 303 in the first round but trimmed that down to 296 and then a +6 286 in the third and final round on Tuesday. Asheville's +6 on Tuesday ranked second behind only Troy's +4 on the day.
As mentioned earlier, Gold led the way for the Bulldogs for the second straight tournament with her +4 performance in Jupiter. Gold rapidly moved up the leader board on Tuesday shooting a -3 in her final round, which was tied for the second-lowest score of any golfer in the field. Some highlights in Gold's final round included an impressive eagle to go along with four birdies. Thanks to her performance on Tuesday, Gold shot up 15 spots on the leader board.
Much like Gold, Venecia Zaia saved her best for last with a -1 score on Tuesday after shooting a +1 and +10 on her first two days. Furthermore, Zaia finished tied for third with in terms of number of pars (37) over the course of the tournament.
The other Bulldogs that played in Jupiter were Kayla Benge, who shot 79-72-73 for an overall stroke total of 224 to finish tied for 23rd, Phoebe Carles (T-34th – 79-73-79 – 231) and Amber Capote (41st – 77-81-77 – 233).
Asheville will look to build upon this success in its next fall tournament, which will be on October 17-18 at the Buccaneer Classic in Goose Creek, S.C.
