Bulldogs finish fourth at the Buccaneer Classic

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team finished fourth out of 10 teams at the Buccaneer Classic on Tuesday. Individually, the Bulldogs were led by the duo of Venecia Zaia and Phoebe Carles who shot identical scores of 234 (+18) for the 54-hole tournament.

Asheville's team score of 943 (+79) for the three-round tournament ranked ahead of fellow Big South schools Gardner-Webb (5th - +89), Radford (6th - +96), Winthrop (7th - +106), and Presbyterian (9th - +119). Furthermore, host Charleston Southern won the tournament shooting an 895 (+31).

The top score for a round by a Bulldog in the tournament was a +2 (74). Zaia and Carles both carded a 74 in the opening 18 holes on Monday. Zaia added a +3 (75) in round two to pace Asheville and Carles led the way for the Bulldogs in the final round carding a +6 (78).

Madyson Gold (T-22nd – 75-79-83-237), Kayla Benge (T-25 – 79-80-79-238), Hailey Pendleton (T-35 – 81-83-80), and Amber Capote (52nd – 86-84-89-259) also competed for Asheville in the Buccaneer Classic.

Asheville will be back in action next week when it competes at the Terrier Intercollegiate in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
