Women’s Tennis finishes strong at Emily McNall Classic Sunday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team finished play in their first Emily McNall Classic on Sunday, capping off its opening fall tournament in strong fashion.
The Bulldogs swept all the action against Montreat, as Linge Steenkamp and Ari Siegel downed their opponents 6-1. Ami Grace Dougah and Beatrice Faureng swept the No. 2 doubles 6-0, with Dougah picking up a two-set win at the No. 1 singles flight later in the day. Steenkamp, Taylor Love and Siegel each followed suit, downing their opponents in straight sets in flights No. 2 through No. 4.
Against Western Carolina, it was a lot of the same for Asheville, with Rosie Dickson and Dougah gutting out a 7-5 win at the No. 1 doubles flight. Steenkamp and Siegel would improve to 2-0 on the day as a duo, taking the No. 2 doubles flight 7-5. Love and Faureng would battle at the No. 3 doubles, but get edged out 7-5.
In singles action, Lize Alet Morkel was victorious at the No. 1 singles flight topping her opponent 7-5, 7-5. After taking the first set 7-5, Dougah won the second set easily 6-2. Steenkamp grabbed another two-set win at the No. 3 flight, while Dickson showed grit at the No. 4 singles flight, winning 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. Faureng finished the day like Dickson, grabbing the third and clinching set 10-7 to grab the point at the No. 6 singles flight.
UNC Asheville now has some time off, not competing until October 21 in the regionals hosted at Wake Forest.
