Baseball Opens Home Schedule Tuesday vs. Wofford

03.01.2021 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team will open its home schedule Tuesday afternoon as it hosts Wofford at Greenwood Field. First pitch between the Bulldogs and Terriers is scheduled for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.

Last Time Out – Asheville dropped both ends of a doubleheader last Saturday at East Tennessee State by scores of 6-3 and 6-2. With Saturday's results, the Bulldogs are 1-3 through the season's first week of action.

Freshman Finds Success – Through four games, freshman Ty Kaufman has been one of the team's most productive offensive players. The freshman from McDonough, Georgia, hit .400 with six hits (two doubles) in 15 at-bats. Kaufman also led Asheville in runs scored (3) and total bases (8) in their four games. Kaufman also successfully played all five of his fielding chances for the week seeing time in left field (three games) and second base (one game).

Nice Relief Work – Another freshman had a stellar first week in a Bulldog uniform as Justin Honeycutt was the Bulldogs' top reliever. The freshman lefthander had a pair of scoreless relief outings that each covered two innings. Overall, he struck out four hitters and held opponents to a .182 batting average for the week.

Finally Home – It has been a long time since the Bulldogs have taken their home field in an official game. The last time Asheville played at Greenwood Field was all the way back on May 10, 2019 against Radford, which will be 660 days ago when the Bulldogs take the field Tuesday.

About Wofford – The Terriers enter Tuesday's game against the Bulldogs sporting a 6-2 record overall. Wofford is coming off a four-game series against Xavier where it won three of the four contests. A strength for the Terriers so far in 2021 has been their ability to steal bases. Wofford ranks second in the nation with 20 stolen bases trailing only Louisville's 25 steals.

Series Rewind vs. Wofford – The all-time series history between Asheville and Wofford consists of 48 games. The Terriers have won 25 of those meetings, including the last three. The Bulldogs' last win over Wofford came back on February 26, 2017 by a score of 7-6.

How to Follow – As mentioned earlier, Tuesday's game will air on ESPN+. Live stats will also be available on the baseball team's schedule page.
