GAME NOTES (PDF)
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will hit the road again this weekend as it travels to Radford for a two-game Big South series on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. tip-off with Saturday's set for 3 p.m.
Last Time Out – Asheville came away with a 65-58 victory at Charleston Southern last weekend. The victory improves the Bulldogs' record to 5-6 overall and 4-2 against Big South competition.
20-Point Outing – Senior Nadiria Evans notched her sixth 20-plus outing of the season last Saturday at Charleston Southern. Evans currently paces all Big South players averaging 20.2 points per game, which ranks 31st nationally. A big key in Evans' scoring numbers in 2020-21 has been her ability to get to the free throw line, ranking fourth in the nation in free throw attempts (104) and sixth in made free throws (72).
Kudos to Corpening – Amaryah Corpening netted a season-high 19 points in the first game at Charleston Southern last Friday. Corpening has reached double figures in eight of the team's 11 games so far this season, including each of the last five.
Bulldogs & Boards – A major key in Asheville's success this season has been its ability to out-rebound opponents. When the Bulldogs hold the rebounding edge, they are 4-1 compared to 1-5 when it's the same or the other team has the advantage. Kai Carter has been the top rebounder for the team in 2020-21 averaging 7.5 rebounds a contest, while three others Evans (4.2), Corpening (4.5), and Raquel Cassidy (4.2) all averaging more than four rebounds a game.
Look at Lani – Freshman Lani Woods made a big impact for the Bulldogs in the first game at CSU. Woods netted a career-high 14 points that included a 4-for-6 effort from beyond the arc. The 14-point effort from Woods was the most of any Bulldog bench player this season and it nearly tripled her season point total prior to that game (5).
About Radford – The Highlanders enter this weekend's series after a two-week pause within their program. Radford, which is 1-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play, will take the court for the first time in 2021 this weekend against Asheville. Radford's lone win came in its last game back on the 31st of the December as it knocked off Presbyterian, 61-55.
Series Rewind vs. Radford – There is plenty of history to look back on between UNC Asheville and Radford. These two Big South rivals have matched up over 80 times since the first meeting during the 1986-87 season. The Highlanders have won 56 of 81 all-time meetings, but the two teams split the two games last season with each winning on the opposing team's home court.
How to Follow – Both Friday's and Saturday's games can be seen on ESPN+. There will also be live stats available each game.
