Bulldogs to Host Coppin State for Three This Weekend

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – UNC Asheville baseball will take on Coppin State for three games this weekend. Due to ongoing field improvements to Greenwood Field all three games will be played at Moss Stadium on the campus of Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C.
Games one and two will be played as a doubleheader, Saturday, March 7, with first pitch for game one being scheduled for 12 p.m. First pitch for the second game will be around 3:30 p.m. or approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Game three of the series will be at 12 p.m., Sunday.
About the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs have three players hitting .300 or better after starting all 12 games this season. Greg Gasparro is leading the way as the Bulldog lead-off man is hitting .333 with 16 hits from atop of the order. The left-handed hitting centerfielder is also leading UNC Asheville with 11 RBIs and 22 total bases. Gasparro has also scored seven runs this season.
Easton Jones also has 16 hits and has scored seven runs as the right-handed hitting first baseman is hitting .327 with 18 total bases. Brandon Lankford is hitting right at .300 and has two home runs and nine RBIs. The senior third baseman has accumulated 21 total bases while slugging .525.
Freshman Ryan Douglas has led the Bulldogs with 16.2 innings this season while his 2.70 ERA is the lowest of any Bulldog with at least eight innings thrown this season. Blake Brown has struck out 19 in 13.1 innings of work while he and Jacob Edwards have each struck out 10 batters in a start this season.
About the Eagles
The Eagles have played to a 3-5 record this season. Coppin State opened the season 0-4 after getting swept by the Citadel to open the season and then took a loss to Navy. The Eagles have since won three of their last four as they have picked up victories in their last two games versus Georgetown and Lehigh.
As a team, the Eagles are hitting .234 on the season and have three players that are hitting over .300 this season. The Eagles pitching staff has pitched to a 5.64 ERA in 67 innings so far this season.
